I’m actually not much of a minimalist; I like to have absolutely everything within arms reach because I work in a very helter skelter fashion. I keep stacks of papers, work, and books within reach at all times. I like to be buried and surrounded, and my productivity kicks up to a manic level!

I always keep a single pad of paper beside my desk with a pen tucked beside it. It generally helps me stay organized to be able to scribble thoughts as they occur to me or take notes on emails as they come in; it solidifies everything in my head.

I think these are definitely essential. The noise level has never been important to me–I often work in bustling coffee shops or with loud music–but a clear, uncluttered workspace really makes a big difference to me. Good points!

Don’t forget a door! Not only will enclosing your workspace at home make it tax deductible, but I find it’s totally and completely essential in keeping my work life productive and organized. When in doubt, shut it out!
