The recession is causing people to look in untraditional places for work these days. Many people are looking into second jobs at pawn shops as a way to make some extra cash to cover their bills. Not everyone should work at a pawn shop, though.

To work in a pawn shop, you need to have a certain way with people. You need to be able to handle the many different types of people who come into the shop. There will be women with children who come in to sell gold jewelry because the choice to sell scrap gold is the only way they can feed their kids that month. Then there will be hoodlums coming in to pawn items that they have stolen. You need to be able to work with these different types of people efficiently and safely.

Working in a pawn shop can be an easy job for people who are good with others. The hours are typically decent and the pay is fair. It’s not a way to get rich and it probably isn’t a career that you want to plan on having forever but it’s a good job to do in times of financial need. Of course, you could just pawn your own items for cash instead!
