Different courses offered at art schools

When it comes to art schools, the choices today are so much more varied than when I was trying to decide which school to attend. Back in my day there were only a hand full of art schools and only people who were interested in pursuing a career as a traditional artist went. There were a lot of art history classes and technique classes for drawing, using different mediums and different types of art, such as still life and such. It was pretty narrow in its scope, which suited the needs of that time.
Today, however, is a different story all together. Art schools have branched out and what is considered a subject of art is much broader. Culinary arts are quite often offered at art institutes, along with web development and animation. And the animation programs aren’t just tradition cartoons; you can also learn about 3d animation, online animation and, of course, computer animation.
It’s great that there are so many different complementary subjects being taught at art schools these days. It would have been neat to have been able to take a pastry class along with my art classes. Learning something outside of your chosen discipline can be helpful, and fun, too.
