Corporate Code

I work an incredibly corporate job, I mean like straight tie, black socks, shiny shoes corporate but believe it or not it’s fun.  After about a year of working at this inside sales company, I learned we weren’t just a herd of suited up sheep sitting in cubicles.  I realized the guy who always had broken glasses was an avid Guns N’ Roses fan and the guy whose shirt would never be tucked in by the end of the day worked at a brewery on the weekends.

Our water cooler conversation soon turned from outsource inside sales talk to where is the closest happy hour to here?  There was always at least one telesales consulting supervisor hanging around close by so Jim with the broken glasses, Norm with the untucked shirt and me figured we needed a code name for our beer breaks.  We decided upon the term sales consulting.  Not only was it a term thrown around pretty regularly in our office, but neither Norm, Jim or I really knew what it meant so we changed the definition to “beer break time.”

So the tradition began. At about 10 each morning, we would discuss where we might want to head for some sales consulting at lunchtime, or where would be the best place to discuss sales consulting after work.  To this day no one has caught on and when our supervisors do over hear our conversation, they are impressed to say the least to have such dedicated employees.
