Can You Afford to Drive Drunk?

drunk drivingEveryone has heard that you’re not supposed to drive drunk, but apparently no one really takes this seriously, because a lot of people still do.

So here’s another way to look at it: Drunk driving costs you money.  Can you afford to drive drunk?

Here’s a few ways driving drunk will cost you money if you get caught:

  • You’ll have to pay fines, court fees, probation fees, and the cost of alcohol classes.  These costs aren’t cheap, and will most likely amount to thousands of dollars — if not more.
  • You will have to hire a Clearwater DUI attorney.  A public defender doesn’t have your best interests at heart, so you are best off hiring your own lawyer.  There is no shortage of St. Petersburg DUI attorneys to choose from — but they don’t come cheap!
  • You may have to pay for repairs to your car or replace your car, and the cost of your insurance will go up.  Whether you have an accident or not, getting a DUI will make your car insurance go up — if your carrier doesn’t drop you entirely!  And if you do get into an accident, you may have to repair or replace your car — or suffer the consequences of not having a car anymore at all!
  • You may lose your license.  Losing your license is no laughing matter.  For some people, this may mean that it is difficult or even impossible to work, costing you money in lost wages.

All of these costs add up quite quickly, making that drive home literally the purchase of a lifetime.  Can you really afford to drive drunk?  If not, it’s better to pay for a cab than to risk getting caught.
