Diary Of A Top Model Contestant

I am still reeling from my run on “America’s Next Top Model,” but I have to say the best thing I took away with me was my smile. Going into the competition last year, many of you know that my greatest weakness was a gap in my front teeth. While I have had it my whole life, I needed to close the gap in order to pursue a career in modeling. Mid competition, I had an over the phone conference with a Washington DC dentist. We discussed the procedure to close my teeth up and, being the wimp that I am, I expressed to him my nerves about dentistry in general. He assured me there was a great practice of sedation dentistry in Washington DC which eased my fears. So two days later I flew out to the city and met with my doctor face to face.
He told me to count to ten but I don’t remember getting past two. When I awoke, my gap was gone! It was amazing; I felt no pain at all. Not only were my teeth perfectly straight but they had been whitened also. Leaving what I think are the best dentists in Washington DC, I returned to the competition and felt so much more comfortable smiling in front of the camera. Although I didn’t make it to the end of the competition, I feel I have brought so much more than a title of Top Model home with me and I will be forever grateful for that.

Your competition may have been the reason you chose to have the dental work done but you are going to benefit from it long afterwards. Nothing beats a great smile for making friends of getting ahead in the corporate world.

Isn’t the way you smile just as important as the way you walk in competition? We spend so much time making sure our hair is perfect but overlook the one thing that most people see first, our teeth. You have taken the right steps and I hope any other contestants with teeth issues will follow them.

Well, at least you came away from the competition with good dental work. I’m not a big fan of any of that model stuff anyway, but good oral hygeine and all that: big fan. Congratulations on trying and congratulations on your improved smile!

My girlfriend has a little gap in the front of her smile and I think it’s totally adorable. However, I guess if you strive to be perfect, then a dentist should fix that for you. It’s amazing when dentists can do today without totally reconstructing your whole mouth.

As a Dental Assistant I can only tell you how much easier it is for all concerned to work on a patient who is sedated. There is less stress on the doctor and the work can be completed quickly and, in my opinion, better.
