Favorite Childhood Holidays

The last few months of the year, starting with October, have always seemed magical to me — partly because that’s when my two favorite holidays as a child, Halloween and Christmas, are.
I think Halloween must be among most kids’ favorite holidays. It’s just made to be a kids’ holiday. What child doesn’t love dressing up as their favorite characters and parading around the neighborhood getting candy?
Parents start teaching kids to love Halloween quite young. Even the babies who are too young to know what is going on are dressed in infant Halloween costumes. And they may not fully understand what is going on, but they definitely know that the costume makes all the adults ooh and ahh over them, so I suppose you could say there is even a little behavioral reinforcement going on there.
I still love Halloween, even though I’m too old to get free candy out of the deal. I love seeing all of the neighborhood kids in their cute Halloween costumes. But my all-time favorite holiday is Christmas.
I suppose it’s the kid in me that still loves getting presents, but I also love giving presents. It’s a goal of mine to think up the perfect present for someone. Seeing the happy expressions on their faces is almost as good as getting the perfect present myself!
