How to Prevent a Sunburn

It’s the middle of summer and you’re starting to feel like you might as well enjoy the sunshine if you have to deal with the heat anyway. You might pack up and head to the nearest beach or just plan a day of tanning at the local pool with your friends. It’s great to get a chance to enjoy the sun but don’t do it at the cost of getting a sunburn.

Here are some basic tips to follow to avoid getting a sunburn:

  • Be smart about tanning lotions. Make sure that you use the best suntan lotion for your skin and that you understand the proper use of the tanning lotion before you count on it to protect you from the sun.
  • Don’t go tanning at the hottest time of the day. You want to get some time in the sun in the morning and in the evening but stay out of the sun during the peak hours (10 a.m. - 3 p.m.) when sunburns are most common.
  • Make use of the shade. Yes, you want to tan but you don’t have to stay directly in the sun at all times. Relax under a shaded tree, an umbrella or a sun hat to protect your skin.

Getting a tan isn’t a bad thing. And spending time soaking up the sun is actually good for your body. You just want to be smart about how you do it.
