I don’t think you’re being overprotective at all. Any breadwinner with a family should have life insurance, because you don’t want something to happen to you ever! Your family will be left with nothing and you will be kicking yourself from beyond the grave.

You’re way over the top. Nervous mothers are one thing, but haven’t you heard of self manifesting? If you tell him enough times that he’s going to die in a plane crash, he really will. Ease up and get in tune with the universe.

Does he drive to work? He’s more likely to get hit by a car and killed than he is to die in a plane crash. You can’t prevent bad things from happening, but you can help to live a good, full life and fulfill your earthly purpose before you pass.

You are being a BIT of a nervous nelly, but I think it’s perfectly reasonable to counsel your son to get life insurance, even if he drives to work everyday and that’s it. If he’s got a family, it’s a no brainer. Simple as that.

My mother works in an Emergency Room, so trust me, I understand where you’re coming from. Every time I drop off radar for more than a day, she’s calling me and if I don’t pick up, starts calling hospitals and credit card companies (to see if I’ve used my cards). Yeah.
