Making Sure You Are Covered

doctor-2The field of medicine, while rewarding, is not without risks.  Physicians face risks every day in their profession due to the nature of their work.  It doesn’t matter whether you are a pediatrician or an ER doctor, you stand the chance to become disabled.  As a result, disability insurance for the physician is crucial.

Physician disability insurance provides cash payments to you in the event that you are injured in your practice and are unable to complete your duties.  This isn’t workers compensation as workers compensation can be limited.  This is also different from Social Security Insurance.  With SSI, you are prevented from working in any field of work.

Long term disability insurance packages are also available for physicians.  With this type of coverage, you receive payments during the period where you are unable to perform your normal duties.  You are not excluded from working with this type of coverage.  If you are normally a surgeon and cannot perform surgery, you could still practice as a general physician.

Many doctors do not have adequate coverage to protect them in the event they become disabled.  You can find many companies online that will be happy to talk with you about your coverage needs.  Do yourself a favor and check out the different coverage options available to you.
