My Horse’s Vet and His Gadgets

My vet was out last week to give my horse his shots and check him over.  When I was writing out my check afterward, I noticed that he had a really cool cell phone set up.  I doubt these are standard Blackberry accessories, though — it was really fancy!  His phone was open in a holder on his dash, and it seemed to run through the truck’s speakers.  It was all integrated.  I wonder if he hears the caller on his truck speakers, too?

Of course, my vet is pretty high tech.  He also has a laptop and a printer in his truck so that he can update your account, print out your bill, and collect payment right then and there.  It’s nice because that way I get it taken care of right away — which I’m sure is nice for him, too.

He also has the typical large animal vet’s truck, with refrigeration and hot water and anything else he might need to take care of someone’s horse.  When he floated my horse’s teeth a month ago, he also has electric, battery-operated drills — just like the ones from the dentist, except about 10 times bigger!

I suppose all the state-of-the-art equipment translates into a higher price for me, but I don’t mind.  I feel more secure with a vet who is well organized and has all the right equipment.  I’m quite happy to pay more in order to know that my horse is getting the best possible care!

I just got a blackberry! I have to say, the machine itself has some pretty cool perks, and they definitely have a lot of upgrades that you can add onto. I love the whole blackberry messenger thing, it’s kind of like AOL instant messenger on phones. It rocks!

Man, talk about a high tech vet! I only have a puppy, but our vet is definitely not quite so up to date as all that. Though he did just get a new office that’s very nice. I’m impressed with your vet though, I’m going to offer mine some tips.

I can’t even conceive the medical knowledge that’s necessary to care for a horse! It seems like not only do they need a lot of care and attention, but apparently they need a lot of accoutrement as well!

Man, I miss the days when I used to have a horse. I grew up with each me and my two sisters having our own horses, and I totally miss the feeling of going out riding all day, hanging out in the stable with my horse when it was pouring rain. Great way to grow up.

I’m a big fan of any and all gadgetry, especially when you can write it off as a business expense! And a lot of cars now are coming with an integrated Bluetooth hookup that feeds your phone through the sound system.

I’m kind of jealous of my father; his car has the full Bluetooth hookup that allows him to answer calls on an in dash screen and broadcasts the call through the sound system. Very cool, and now I can’t wait to get a new car!

A set up like that is actually not that difficult to achieve, but usually it is done through the car manufacturer rather than a phone company or accessories outfit. And right now you can typically get a good deal on it as well, so hook it up while you can!

Is he part of an established office, or is he self employed and the truck is essentially his business? I’ve always been really interested in veterinary school, but I’ve never been sure if it’s a lucrative occupation or not.
