Changes in Ecommerce

Most of us don’t think twice about the way that ecommerce works. That’s because it’s so common for us to make purchases online. But it really wasn’t that long ago that the average person hadn’t seen an ecommerce storefront, let alone shopped through one. In the short amount of time that it took for ecommerce to go from unknown to commonplace, a lot of changes in the business occurred.
The main area of change for the ecommerce site was in the availability of much more advanced ecommerce software. There is a significant amount of variety in software options today as compared to just five years ago. This software makes it possible for the average Joe to launch an online storefront which wasn’t the case when ecommerce first began.
Another main area of change has been the increased speed of the Internet. If we had to wait for web pages to load as long as we used to have to wait five years ago, most of us wouldn’t bother with online shopping. Sure, it still feels slow sometimes and there are definitely some flaws with online shopping now and then. But overall, the changes in the ecommerce industry have been good for consumers.
