Visiting Wedding Venues

Visiting wedding venues is probably the single most important thing you can do when trying to make a decision about where you want to get married.  Even a venue that looks perfect in the pictures may look and feel much different than what you want when you are there in person, so you should never choose a wedding venue that you have not visited.

The managers and staff that run wedding venues are usually more than happy to show you around.  Some venues are even interesting enough to warrant giving tours when they are not in use for weddings.  For example, this castle wedding venue located in northern Michigan offers castle tours in addition to hosting weddings and other events, such as the fiber arts festival.

Be sure you do your research first, though!  Before you start visiting wedding venues, you should get several things together so that you have a better idea of what you’re looking for:

  1. A guest list — so that you have an approximate number of guests to tell the venues you are touring
  2. A price range — so that you can eliminate venues that are too expensive before taking the time to tour them
  3. An rough idea of your plans, including wedding theme or themes — so that you know ahead of time what you might want in the look and feel of a venue

Try to eliminate venues that you can tell won’t work before you ever tour them.  If you only have a handful or so of wedding venues to visit, and they are all ones that you will potentially really like, the task should be much more enjoyable than it would be if you were wasting time visiting venues that definitely wouldn’t work for you!
