Kids and Creativity

One of my favorite things about spending time with kids is the chance to get to see imagination in action on a daily basis. Kids are creative in almost everything that they do.
Remember back when you were a child and you would play games with your friends? You would take whatever was at hand and make a creative game out of using it.
I remember for awhile we had these old Commander series headsets in our house. They didn’t work but we pretended that we could use them as 2 way radios and we created all of these adventurous scenarios to act out together using them.
Kids are great at turning anything into a toy that can be used as part of an imaginative play session. Give them old cellular phone batteries and they’ll turn them into something you couldn’t even see with your adult eyes.
It’s great for adults to play with kids because you start to remember how to imagine things in a new way again just like you did when you were young. You start to look at the world with new eyes and you become more creative in your daily work and life. It’s sad that we need to be taught that again when we really did know it in the first place.
